Strawberry Chia Jam

Strawberry Chia Jam 1280 960 Nava Wholefoods

There is something so nostalgic about strawberry jam on toast or a dollop on top of a warm stack of pancakes, however, it normally comes packed with a sugar punch, so we decided to make this healthy version for it to be enjoyed everyday! This sweet and tangy recipe is full of gut-loving chia seeds. Chia seeds are little power houses which are rich in omegas, antioxidants, iron, and calcium, and are an incredible source of fibre too. Try this simple Strawberry Chia Jam recipe which uses only three wholesome ingredients!

  1. Add the strawberries to a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Cook until the strawberries break down and become liquidly, about 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Mash the fruit to a pulp with the back of a spatula or potato masher. You can choose if you prefer it smooth or chunky.
  4. Remove pan from the heat, and stir in the maple syrup. Taste, and add more if needed.
  5. Add the chia seeds, and stir all to combine.
  6. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes, or until thickened.  Note that it will continue to thicken over time, especially once refrigerated.
  7. Once the jam has cooled to room temperature, transfer it to a sealable jar.
  8. Store in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Tip: Mix it up and try different fruits such as cherries, peaches, or raspberries!
